How to Optimize a Director Movie for Playback

As you work with a Macromedia Director movie, the file becomes somewhat bloated. A simple command will allow you to compact the file and rearrange the Cast Members for optimum efficiency. These instructions apply to Macromedia Director 5.0. Procedures for other versions may vary.

Things You'll Need:

  • Macromedia Director
  1. Step 1

    Open your Director movie.

  2. Step 2

    Select Save and Compact from the File menu. The saved file will be optimized for playback.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also compact files while working on your movie from the Update Files command found in the Xtras window.
  • The Save and Compact command can take time to finish, especially if your file is large.
