1
Purchase 24 to 36 small plastic Easter eggs - the kind you can pull apart and fill with candy - and a large quantity of greens (or gather them from your garden). Use tips of branches for best results. Some suggestions are oak, asparagus fern, bay laurel, rhaphiolepis and boxwood.
-
2
Use tape or a hot-glue gun to attach 6- to 8-inch pieces of number 24 floral wire (sometimes called paddle wire) to the plastic eggs. Place the wire anywhere on the surface of the egg.
-
3
Cut the greens to a length of 6 inches each.
-
4
Place a 10-foot length of twine on a large, flat surface. The ends can drape over the edges of your work surface.
-
5
Tie a loop in one end of the twine.
-
6
Attach the end of a spool of floral wire to the loop end of the twine.
-
7
Select several of the 6-inch greens and place them together in a bundle, with the stems at one end - try to mix different kinds of foliage in each bundle.
-
8
Place the bundle at the loop end of the twine, with the stems pointing away from the loop.
-
9
Wrap the floral wire once around the stems and secure them in place on the twine.
-
10
Wrap the floral wire around the bundle a second time and then pull it tight. Make sure to leave the wire attached to the twine for the additional bundles.
-
11
Gather another bundle of foliage and place it so that the leaves overlap the first bundle, covering its stems. Make sure all the stems are facing in the same direction.
-
12
Continue the process of overlapping the bunches of foliage and wiring them to the twine until it's completely covered.
-
13
Twist the wire tightly around the last bundle, then knot the wire and the twine together. Leave 12 inches of wire (to attach the garland in place at its desired display location), and cut the wire with scissors or garden shears.
-
14
Wire the prepared plastic Easter eggs along the length of the garland. Group together several of different colors for a lavish effect.
-
15
Finish the ends of the garland with colorful bows.
-
16
Hang the finished garland over the mantel or wire it to a banister.
