Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic Easter Eggs
  • Wire Wreath Frame
  • Candles
  • Flowers
  • Garden Shears
  • Glue Guns
  • Greenery
  • Tape
  • Water Picks
  • Wire Clothes Hangers
  • Tape
  • Buckets
  • Paddle Wire
  • Candles
  • Tape
  1. Step 1

Purchase 12 to 24 stems of spring flowers and a large amount of greens from a flower shop, or cut them from your garden. Some suggested greens are magnolia, oak, nandina, asparagus fern or rhaphiolepis. The tip ends of branches work best.

  2. Step 2

Store the flowers and greens in a bucket of water until you're ready to use them.

  3. Step 3

Purchase small plastic Easter eggs, the kind that can be opened and filled with candy. Use tape or a hot-glue gun to attach 6-inch pieces of number 24 floral wire (sometimes called paddle wire) to any part of the plastic egg. Prepare 6 to 10 eggs, depending on the size of your wreath.

  4. Step 4

Use a wire wreath frame or make your own from a wire coat hanger (simply unbend it and form it into a circle - you can use the hook to hang your finished wreath).

  5. Step 5

Attach floral wire to one spot on the wire frame of the wreath.

  6. Step 6

Select several stems of greens, cut them into 6-inch lengths, and place them together in a bundle with all of the stems at one end.

  7. Step 7

Place this bundle on top of the frame where the floral wire is connected.

  8. Step 8

Hold the bundle in place, and wrap the floral wire once around the bundle and frame.

  9. Step 9

Wrap the floral wire around the bundle a second time and then pull it tight. Make sure to leave the wire attached to the frame, for the next bundle.

  10. Step 10

Gather another bundle of foliage and place it so that the leaves overlap the first bundle, covering its stems. Face the stems of both bundles in the same direction.

  11. Step 11

Cut the stems of the flowers to about 4 to 6 inches. Insert each flower into a water pick filled with water. (Water picks are the small plastic containers that florists use to preserve cut flowers in bouquets.)

  12. Step 12

Place a prepared flower onto the second bundle, and wrap the wire around the plastic pick.

  13. Step 13

Continue overlapping the bunches of foliage and prepared flowers, wiring them to the frame until you complete the circle.

  14. Step 14

Lift the first bundle and tuck the last one under it.

  15. Step 15

Twist the wire tightly around the last bundle. Knot the wire onto the frame, leaving an inch of wire, which you'll use to hang the finished wreath. (If you're using a coat hanger, omit this part.)

  16. Step 16

Wire the plastic Easter eggs around the wreath. Since they're lightweight, they only need to be twisted onto a small piece of greens. The colorful eggs will stand out and give your wreath a festive look.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use foam eggs instead of hard plastic ones. Attach them to the frame in the same manner.
  • Instead of hanging it on the front door, place the finished wreath on the table and use it as a centerpiece for Easter dinner. Place lighted candles in the center of the wreath for evening entertaining.
  • Never leave burning candles unattended.
  • Unplug the hot-glue gun when not in use.
