A bra will be worn next to your skin, so it's essential that it's free of dirt, sweat and grime. Be sure to wash it often so perspiration and body oils don't linger.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mild Detergent
  • lingerie bag
  1. Step 1

Fasten the hooks on the bra before you wash it. This will prevent them catching on trim or on other clothes.

  2. Step 2

Hand-wash a bra to prolong its life. Use cool water and a gentle soap made for delicate fabrics.

  3. Step 3

Place the bra in a lingerie bag if you machine-wash it.

  4. Step 4

Wash the bra in cool water on the delicate cycle, using a mild detergent.

  5. Step 5

    Air-dry the bra after washing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many companies advise that you wash a bra before wearing it the first time.
  • If you are nursing, breast milk generally does not stain. If it does, simply pre-treat the nursing bra with an enzyme-containing product such as Biz, which will dissolve the protein in the milk stain. Then wash as usual.
  • Machine-washing underwire bras can result in the wire coming out and lodging in your washing machine. If you machine-wash these bras, make sure they're inside a lingerie bag.
  • Using harsh detergents on a bra is not only bad for the bra - it may cause irritation around your nipples or skin.
  • For best results, do not put a bra in the dryer.

on 8/8/2006 Victoria's Secret bras, especially, should always be hand-washed, which can be a major pain. After a few wearings, use Spray 'n Wash, or another pre-treatment that is color-fast, and spray the entire inside of your bra (any part that touches skin).

Let this soak for 5-10 minutes, and then gently scrub using a wet toothbrush, sock, or pair of undies. (These materials are soft enough and won't snag the delicate material.)

Rinse the entire bra thoroughly (I use the bathtub) and let most of the water drip off. Do not ring out our bra, because you know you'll never get its shape back! Then drape over a dry bra to help reform the cups. Let it dry thoroughly.
