Contact HUD through the federal government pages of the phone book, or look up their Web site at http://www.hud.gov.

Ask for all applications pertaining to the grant you want. The Web site has the applications online.

Read the application thoroughly. Contact HUD if you have questions.

Fill out all applications completely.

Provide the documentation needed. Include any unique information needed for specific grants - letters, pictures, rental notices, doctor's notes, lab results, and so on.

Check the application to make sure there are no mistakes or omissions.

Send the application to the address HUD provides you, or send it electronically via the Internet.

Set an appointment with HUD, if required, to complete the application process. Bring all pertinent information and identification with you.
