Step1
Meet Felicity (Keri Russell). She's currently in her sophomore year of college, working in the dorm as a resident assistant, and is confused about the boys in her life. The end of last season found her making a decision between going to Berlin with her boyfriend Noel or road tripping with the mysterious Ben, the object of her affections who brought her to New York in the first place. She hit the highways, and lip locks, with Ben, but broke it off with him when she sensed his hesitation. But she still finds it hard to choose between them.
Step2
Gain insight into Felicity as she dictates "letters" to her friend Sally (Janeane Garofalo, who provides the voice but doesn't appear on-screen) via a tape recorder as a sort of diary.
Step3
Sympathize with Noel (Scott Foley), the sweet first-year teaching assistant who had his heart broken by Felicity but is trying to be friends with her. He's a computer and graphic design geek who loves Macs and video games. To his credit, he's trying to date other people while sorting out his feelings for an unattached Felicity. He rooms with Elena (Tangie Miller), Felicity's lab partner, who survived an affair with one of her college professors.
Step4
Try to get a fix on ex-gambling addict Ben (Scott Speedman). He's fickle when it comes to women, and it's hard to tell if he's scared or just doesn't want to be tied down. When he and Felicity got together over the summer, he left his girlfriend (who is also Felicity's best friend), Julie, in the dust. Ben got scared that Felicity might fall in love with him and started the distancing that made Felicity leave him. He shares a SoHo loft with Paul, the hapless inventor who has the biggest crush on Julie, and Julie herself, who is at least on speaking terms with Ben now. Ben is trying, unsuccessfully, to date other people.
Step5
Get to know Julie (Amy Jo Johnson), who is a great guitarist and songwriter cutting an album. She knows nothing of Sean's crush on her, and seems to be moving forward in her friendship with Ben despite his running off. But she hasn't completely forgiven her friend Felicity for stealing her man and has written a nasty song about her that she sings at the local coffee house.
Step6
Appreciate the eccentric Meghan (Amanda Foreman), definitely comic relief on the show, who returns as Felicity's crazy roommate. She dresses erratically, her hair is many different colors, she hates listening to Felicity whine, and she has a secret box that she won't let anyone peek into under threat of death.
Step7
Notice that there isn't a lot of effort spent on studying or going to class, but the dorms have always been the most interesting part of college, anyway.
Step8
