  1. Step 1

    Learn everything there is to know about trees. Take horticulture classes or work at a nursery.

  2. Step 2

    Purchase the appropriate tools for cutting trees.

  3. Step 3

    Hire helpers. Train them in your techniques for safely cutting trees.

  4. Step 4

    Contact the city or county department that handles business licenses and request an application.

  5. Step 5

    Inquire as to what other requirements there are for opening a business. You may be required to have insurance or have to follow certain restrictions for the area.

  6. Step 6

    Contact the Franchise Tax Board to get a wholesale permit, if required. This will allow you to purchase goods without paying tax if they are to be used in your business.

  7. Step 7

    Set up business. This sort of business can be run out of a home or warehouse.

    Pass out flyers to homeowners in areas that have lots of mature trees.
