How to Prepare Glass, Stone and Plaster for Decoupage

Decoupage is the art of applying and sealing paper cutouts on almost any surface to decorate almost anything from picture frames to lamps, furniture and dishes.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Clean the surface with mild soap and water.

  2. Step 2

    Dry with paper towels.

  3. Step 3

    Wipe the entire surface with denatured alcohol using an old rag.

  4. Step 4

    Spray 2 or 3 coats of acrylic sealer on glass. For plaster and stone, use 3 or 4 coats of shellac.

  5. Step 5

    Allow surface to dry between coats.

  6. Step 6

    Apply paint before applying cutouts.

Tips & Warnings
  • Display decoupaged dishes. They cannot be used for cooking or serving food.
