By eHow Sports & Fitness Editor

Rate: (5 Ratings)

The flick shot is simply an aggressive variation of the push shot. It provides an excellent option for the service return.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Athletic Gear
  • Table Tennis Balls
  • Table Tennis Nets
  • Table Tennis Paddles
  • Table Tennis Playing Tables
  • Table Tennis Video

Step1
Learn and master the forehand and backhand push shots (see Related eHows section).
Step2
Begin the flick shot exactly as you would a normal push shot.
Step3
Rotate your wrist to turn your paddle from open (facing up) to closed (facing down) as you strike the ball - this is the flick. Flick quickly and aggressively to give the ball plenty of topspin.
Step4
Follow through as you would on a normal push shot so that your paddle points to where you want your shot to go.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice flicks without the ball to get used to the motion. Flick on both forehand and backhand shots.
  • Disguise your aggressive flick with a calm demeanor.
