Play Air Drums

When drummers are away from their instruments, which is quite often, they often resort to air drumming. Although often distracting to others, playing air drums provides drummers with a mental practice session that can help a great deal.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • CDs
    • CD Players
    • Drumsticks
    • Sheet Music
    • Headsets
    • Modern Drummer Subscriptions
      • 1

Choose a song that you like listening to and has a drum beat that you like. Listen to this song repeatedly.

      • 2

Close your eyes and picture the inside of your mouth. Picture the outside edges of your right molar teeth. With your mouth closed, gently click these outside edges to produce a low, clicking sound.

      • 3

Open and close your jaw with your mouth still closed, and click your upper and lower teeth together. This should produce a higher-pitched click sound.

      • 4

Use the outside teeth as your bass drum and your open and closed jaw as your snare drum, and play along with your favorite song.

      • 5

Continue with these sound effects, and put your hands and feet in motion. You are now ready to play air drums with full stereophonic sound.

I'm not sure about the teeth method, sounds like you could do some damage if you got carried away!

I just have to say, I have been doing this air drum system for about a year now. I never read this either, which was kinda scary when it described exactly what I do when I hear a song. I tap my fingers and toes along with my jaw. I have mastered using my jaw as a drum, and can play any song at any speed.

I generally use my teeth and jaws to play Air Drums, sometimes I use my chest as the bass drum and my stomach as the snare. Add both feet and you have your own human trap set. I can play any type of song, any rhythm at virtually any speed. I can get Neil Pert-type rolls simply by alternating the fingers of both hands on my stomach at high speed. Master this, and believe me, you will be the life of the party. It's great fun while sitting around with friends listening to music.
