How to Insert an Automatic Drop Cap in QuarkXPress

You can use QuarkXPress 3.3 and 4.0 to create fancy drop caps in your documents to jazz up the layout just like magazines do. Windows instructions may vary slightly.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Select the Content tool in the toolbar.
Step2
Single click in the paragraph in which you want the drop cap to appear.
Step3
Go to the Style menu and select Formats.
Step4
Select the Drop Caps checkbox.
Step5
Enter the number of characters in the drop cap (this can be a single character or the number of letters in an entire word).
Step6
Enter the number of lines (line count) you want the drop cap to span.
Step7
Click Apply.
Step8
Move the window out of the way to preview the drop cap.
Step9
Click OK to finalize the drop cap formatting.

Tips & Warnings

  • Select the drop cap and change the color, shade, or font.
  • The maximum line count for a drop cap is 16.
