Go to the File menu and select New, then select Document.

Select the page size (U.S. Letter or U.S. Legal, and so on) and the width and height of the page in inches, if appropriate.

If you want more than one column, enter the number in the Column Guides section.

Change the gutter width, if necessary; Quark's default is 0.167 inches.

Enter the number, in inches, that you want for the page margin guides (top, bottom, left, and right).

Select the Facing Pages box for books and magazines or multiple-page documents; this feature places the first page alone and has subsequent pages face each other in pairs (spreads).

Select Automatic Text Box so that the specified number of columns and the selected gutter width will appear on the default Master A page, as well as on any document pages you want associated with that master.

Click OK when you have entered all of the specifications for your new document.
