Many people call a safe deposit box a "safety deposit box." While we put things in the box as a safety measure, the correct term is "safe deposit box" - since the box is in a locked vault, a safe.

At my bank, the only people who have access to the box while the person who originally got the box is alive are those who have been authorized to have access by the original person and who have signed the signature card.
