When you're about to make a large purchase, it's wise to check a company's record. You have every right to demand great customer service. This advice is provided in conjunction with Feedback Direct (see Related Sites).

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Call, write or e-mail your local consumer affairs office or your state attorney general's office and request information about a company's complaint history. Know the exact name and the business address of the company you're inquiring about.

  2. Step 2

Be specific about what information you request. It isn't enough to know the number of complaints that were filed.

  3. Step 3

Find out the nature of the complaints if you can.

  4. Step 4

Ask to look at the actual complaint files to learn more about the complaints and see how the company responded to them.

  5. Step 5

Inquire about any special investigations of the company.

Tips & Warnings
  • A high number of complaints against a small company may be more significant than the same number of complaints against a larger company.

on 11/9/2008 11/09/08 Do not apply for the so called secret shopper!! I recieved a letter with a check for 3860.00, on their first reply. This is a bottom of the barrel scam and u have to b an idiot or more likely someone very desperate for $$$$, fortunately Im neither. They told me i was to deposit this seemingly real check into my bank account, as anyone knows the bank will usually put a 4-7 day hold on it except they will release a portion of it just in good faith. Well you are assigned to spend 100 dollars of the check for mystery shopping to assigned retailers. Here's where it gets fishy then u are assigned to send a money gram via western union or money gram in the amt. of 3300.00$ to your so called boss so as to test the expediancy and courtiessness of the wire service. Last i checked western union has been around since the 1800's so i would take it for granted that they know what they doing,
