Step 1
Leave the existing threads on your serger if you have just purchased a new machine. These threads should hang from the thread rods (the series of wire hooks located over the thread spools) and are meant to make your first threading experience easy.
-
Step 2
Set your thread cones or spools in their places on the thread spindles and use slip knots or square knots to tie the new threads to the existing threads.
-
Step 3
Use the procedure in step 2 when you change thread colors as well. Clip the existing thread right above the thread spool, replace the thread spool and tie the new thread onto the old. That's it!
-
Step 4
Thread your serger from scratch if you remove the pre-existing threads or if your threads break.
-
Step 5
Study the diagram in the manual that accompanied your machine. A threading diagram should also appear on the lower outside or inside cover of your machine. The front of the machine should face you.
-
Step 6
Open the portion of the serger case that covers the threading area. This is located on the right-hand side of the machine. It should pop open easily.
-
Step 7
Place your thread cones or spools on the thread spindles located at the back of the machine. Bring each spool's thread through the spool's corresponding thread rod. There is one thread rod per spool.
-
Step 8
Bring each thread down, one at a time, through the corresponding thread path and tension disk or dial at the top of the machine. Continue along the thread path indicated on the threading diagram.
-
Step 9
Thread the upper looper thread first, the lower looper thread next and then the remaining threads that go through the needle. Loopers, located in the lower interior of the serger, create the "knitted" look of the sewn serger threads.

on 11/28/2007 I could not find the manual, and my machine is not threaded that is why I'm checking on line. Really a photo of a threaded machine would help soooo much. If there were a manual on line somewhere that would also help, but I can't seem to find one.

on 1/5/2007 This did not help!
What if you have no prethreaded threads to follow?
My serger became unthreaded during a move to a new home. I can't find the instruction video and I can't find any diagram on-line on how to thread the serger.
And there is simply no time to wait for a video thru the mail even if I had any money left to buy and pay for shipping and handling.

on 9/10/2006 I use a small, soft paint brush to clean my serger. This works better than the brush that came with it.

on 3/23/2006 Use a dental floss leader to thread through the small holes in loopers, they come in small flat plastic cases and are wonderful.
