Use images to illustrate your Web site, expose viewers to your business logo or just for fun! Dreamweaver allows you to save images on your site as you insert them in the page, making them easy to access and always properly linked. This eHow references Dreamweaver 3.0.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Start the Dreamweaver program.

  2. Step 2

Open the Site Management window by choosing Site from the menu bar, then Open Site. If your site isn't listed in the Open Sites window, choose Define Sites and locate the Web site on your hard drive.

  3. Step 3

Open the page to be edited and place the cursor at the insertion point.

  4. Step 4

Select Insert, then Image from the menu bar and choose the image to be inserted. Click OK at the relative path prompt, if it appears.

  5. Step 5

If the image is not already part of the site or comes from another file on your hard drive, a dialog box may appear, asking you if you want to copy the file to the site. Click Yes.

  6. Step 6

In the Save Image As box, select the Images folder. If you do not have an Images folder, create one to hold all of your images.

  7. Step 7

Click on the Save button. A copy of the image is now saved to the site directory.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you prefer to have all of the images in the site before editing your pages, use the Local Site feature to make your hard drive the Local Site. In the left window, you will see the contents of your hard drive; in the right pane, you will see the contents of the open Web site. Locate and select the images you want to transfer on the left side, then click and drag them to the Images folder.
  • You can find free clip art on the Internet by typing 'free clip art' into a search engine. See 'Find Free Clip Art Online' under Related eHows for more ways to find free clipart.
  • Large and/or numerous images will make your page clunky and slow to download. Use images sparingly and make sure they are optimized for the Web (see 'Optimize a Picture for the Web').
  • Obtain permission before using any unlicensed or copyrighted clip art.
  • Do not use images from another Web page without permission from the owner of the site.

on 7/6/2007 Most images need alt text. I consider alt text part of the process of adding the image. Alt text can be added using the Property inspector after the image is on the page. Or you an set Preferences to ask you for alt text. When you choose Insert > Image, the program reminds you to enter alt text.
