Some search engines use titles to index Web pages. Titles are also used to identify pages in a browser's history and as default names for bookmarks. Add a clear, concise title to your Web page with Dreamweaver 3.0.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Start the Dreamweaver program and open the page to be edited.

  2. Step 2

Open the Modify menu and select Page Properties.

  3. Step 3

Type the title of the page in the Title box and click OK. The dialog box will close.

  4. Step 4

Look at the title bar above the page ' the title should be displayed there.

  5. Step 5

Choose Preview in Browser from the File menu to preview the page. The title of the page should appear in the title bar when you open the browser.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make your title short, clear and to the point. An example: "Parts Store at Bob's Auto Supply." Longer titles can cause confusion and will be cut off by some search engines during the indexing process.
  • Each page in your site should be given a specific title, since each page could be indexed or bookmarked.
  • Search engines sometimes use keywords (meta tags). See "How to Add Keywords to a Web Page With Dreamweaver" in the related eHows for details.
  • Avoid "cyber-squatting" - using a variation on a well-known commercial name - when titling your Web page. Many companies take aggressive measures against Web sites that use such lures to attract users or to get indexed faster.
