Tips & Warnings
  • To ensure that your image is automatically copied when you transfer your site to a Web server, add the image to your site in Dreamweaver before you add it to the page. See "How to Add an Image to a Web Site With Dreamweaver" in the Related eHows for instructions.
  • To use the same image on all pages in the site, create a template page with the background and other settings you want throughout, then use the template as the basis for each page. See "How to Create a Template Page With Dreamweaver" in the Related eHows for instructions.
  • Make sure your background image is subtle and muted. Overly bright graphics can distract the eye from the text.
  • When using a small image, remember that it will tile across and down the page. Make sure the tiled image isn't distracting.
  • Text should be easily readable over the background. Use light text on dark backgrounds and dark text (black is usually best) on light backgrounds.
  • Some older browsers ignore background settings, as do browsers with images turned off.
