It's the job of the referee or host to make sure the game starts smoothly. Organizing a proper face-off is essential to a well-organized game.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Athletic Gear
  • Hockey Jerseys
  • Hockey Sticks
  • In-line Skate Wheels
  • In-line Skates
  • In-line Skating Gear
  • In-line Skating Protective Gear Sets
  • Roller Hockey Pucks
  • Hockey sticks
  1. Step 1

Stretch thoroughly before you skate. Seeing you stretch will remind other players to do so as well.

  2. Step 2

Allow all players at least five minutes to warm up on the court.

  3. Step 3

Give a warning five minutes before you intend to start the game, so everyone can get ready in time.

  4. Step 4

Make sure all players and goalies wear the proper safety gear.

  5. Step 5

Review the "house rules." For example, "If the puck goes into those bushes, there will be a face-off."

  6. Step 6

Separate the teams on either side of the center line. No player may be within a ten-foot radius of the two players facing off.

  7. Step 7

Have one player from each team face each other squarely on their respective sides of the center of the court. Both players' sticks must touch the ground.

  8. Step 8

Hold the puck up between the two players. Make sure they are both ready.

  9. Step 9

Drop the puck between the two players, and the game is on.

Tips & Warnings
  • If there is no referee to drop the puck, have two players "count in" the drop: The players face each other and bump their sticks at the same time. Sticks start on the ground, lift up and touch (one), touch the ground (two), touch each other (three), and then both players go for the puck.
  • If counting in generates disputes, you can always flip a coin to see who begins with the puck.
  • Make sure all players wear proper padding at all times when playing roller hockey.
  • Roller hockey is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
