How to Shoot a Wrist Shot in Roller Hockey

The wrist shot is the most common shot in roller hockey. It is most effective as a short quick shot, so practice for control and speed.

Things You'll Need:

  • Hockey Elbow Pads
  • Hockey Gloves
  • Hockey Shoulder Pads
  • Hockey Sticks
  • In-line Skates
  • In-line Skating Helmets
  • Roller Hockey Goals
  • Roller Hockey Pucks
  • Hockey sticks
  1. Step 1

    Position the puck just slightly behind your back skate, or at your side.

  2. Step 2

    Dribble toward the goal.

  3. Step 3

    Slide your lower hand down your stick so that it is about 15 inches below your top hand.

  4. Step 4

    Hold the stick with a firm grip.

  5. Step 5

    Place your blade just behind the puck.

  6. Step 6

    Cup the stick blade over the puck.

  7. Step 7

    Look at the goal, then the puck, and then back at the goal as you shoot.

  8. Step 8

    Sweep the blade from behind the puck to project it toward the goal.

  9. Step 9

    Snap your wrists back as the puck leaves the stick.

  10. Step 10

    Follow through, but keep it low. Use a higher follow-through when shooting for upper corners of the goal.

Tips & Warnings
  • Shoot wrist shots from within 25 feet of the goal.
  • Always wear proper padding when playing roller hockey.
  • Roller hockey is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.

on 6/30/2006 Start with the puck at the heel of the blade of your stick. Then as you follow through with your wind-up, let the puck roll the end of the blade as you release it. This puts a spin motion on the puck allowing it to curve slightly. The more of the blade curve you use, the more motion you get.
