Passing is the most effective way of moving the puck. The sweep is the most basic and common pass - learn it first, and learn it well.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hold your stick with a firm upper grip and a relaxed lower hand, so the lower hand can slide a little on the stick.

  2. Step 2

Choose your target and dribble the puck into a good passing position.

  3. Step 3

Sweep your stick blade along the ground with the puck cupped in the center of it.

  4. Step 4

Shove the puck in the direction you wish to pass, at the end of your sweeping motion. Your arms and the angle of the blade should point toward your target after you've made the pass. Sweep the puck instead of whacking it.

  5. Step 5

Transfer your weight from your back foot to your forward foot as you pass.

  6. Step 6

Look to where you are passing.

  7. Step 7

Follow through with your stick, but keep it near the ground. Your stick should never touch another player.

Tips & Warnings
  • Passing is a finesse skill. Practice frequently to get just the right touch.
  • Passing helps break up the defense.
  • If you are passing to a moving teammate, you must lead the target. Pass in front of players skating forward - the puck meets them where they will be, not where they were when you released it.
  • Always where proper pads when playing roller hockey.
  • Roller hockey is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
