Halfpipes aren't only for snowboarders. Get in there and show the crowds what free-heelers can do.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Ski Clothing
  • Ski/snowboard Helmet
  • Telemark Ski Equipment
Step1
Gain some speed by skiing straight down the middle of the halfpipe, then turn towards a wall. Start out slow until you feel comfortable in the halfpipe.
Step2
Ski straight up a wall, remaining in a low telemark stance with one knee dropped and close to the ground.
Step3
Spring upwards by pushing off both skis when you feel your momentum being slowed down by the wall.
Step4
Rotate your entire body down the wall and switch legs in the telemark stance. If you went up the wall with your right knee dropped, come down with your left knee dropped.
Step5
Ski down the wall.
Step6
Turn your skis to face down the middle part of the halfpipe again.
Step7
Gain speed and then turn into the opposite wall of the halfpipe, repeating the move on this side.
Step8
Keep turning from wall to wall until you run out of halfpipe.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you feel comfortable, try gaining enough speed to soar above the halfpipe wall.
  • Try a few tricks in the halfpipe - pop a 180 degree midair turn or grab a ski with your hand while in flight.
  • Telemark skiing is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
