Mountain bikes are made to ride on streets, gravel roads, dirt, mud and rocks. Choose a trail that matches your ability level.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Pick a trail that loops back to your starting point, or make plans to get picked up at the end of the trail.

  2. Step 2

    Select a trail according to the mileage you would like to ride.

  3. Step 3

    Determine if you would like to ride on a wide path or a rock-strewn trail.

  4. Step 4

    Choose a trail according to the elevation change you'll experience.

  5. Step 5

    Pick a trail for the scenery.

  6. Step 6

    Make sure the trail allows dogs if you want to bring your canine pal.

  7. Step 7

    Look at maps and in bike trail guidebooks for information about trails.

  8. Step 8

    Talk to local riders and bike shop workers about good trails in the area.

on 11/22/2005 The most important thing is to know a good source for trail information. My preference is Dirtworld.com. They have more trails in my area than I'll ever ride. I'm sure they have a ton wherever you live too.
