Riding around a sharp corner at high speed can be one of the most exciting aspects of a bike ride.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Brake before cornering if you need to slow down, then release the brakes throughout the turn.

  2. Step 2

Choose the straightest line through the turn by starting on the inside of the curve and finishing on the outside.

  3. Step 3

Lean your bike into the turn rather than steering with your handlebars.

  4. Step 4

Put the outside pedal at the lowest point in the pedal rotation. This will prevent the inside pedal from hitting the ground.

  5. Step 5

Push down as hard as you can on the outside pedal. This puts your body weight over the tires to increase traction.

  6. Step 6

Round out the turn and resume pedaling.

Tips & Warnings
  • The more weight you can put on the outside pedal, the faster you'll be able to corner.
  • Biking is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.

on 7/16/2007 The straightest line in a turn isn't accomplished by turning from inside to outside. The fastest way is to use out-in-out turning. You can corner quickly by going from the outside of a turn, turn into the apex (inside of the turn), and then accelerate to the outside after hitting the apex.
