Tips & Warnings
  • Dreamweaver aligns itself very closely with HTML, so the Dreamweaver options are almost identical to HTML tags. For example, "strong" is an HTML tag that also means "bold." Older browsers may have an easier time recognizing these "true HTML" commands.
  • To make your work seem most professional, use bold, italic, and other styles sparingly, and also limit the number of fonts on a page. Typically, a professionally designed page will have one font for normal text and one font for "display" text (headings and so on). Bold and underline are almost never used in the basic text flow; italics are used for emphasis, but also infrequently. (Because italics can sometimes look bad on screen, bold is sometimes substituted, but the two are not often mixed.)
  • Do not use the underline feature unless you absolutely must. On a Web page, underlined text usually means linked text and can be confusing when there is no link.
