How to Maintain and Care for Snowshoes

One of the greatest attributes of the snowshoe is its ease of maintenance. Just a few steps are needed to help make your snowshoes last for years.

Things You'll Need:

  • Warm Clothes
  • Clear Varnish
  • Duct Tape
  • Nylon Adhesive Tape
  • Ski Poles
  • Snowshoes
  • String
  • Pocket Knives
  • Screwdriver Sets
  • Wrenches
  • Duct Tape

    Wooden Snowshoes

  1. Step 1

    Wipe the snowshoes dry after every use.

  2. Step 2

    Check the frame for any broken pieces of wood after every outing. Tape or splint together broken pieces.

  3. Step 3

    Re-coat the wood with a layer of clear varnish at the end of the winter season.

  4. Step 4

    Store the snowshoes in a cool, dry area during the warmer months.

  5. Aluminum and Plastic Snowshoes

  6. Step 1

    Wipe the snowshoes dry after every use.

  7. Step 2

    Check for any rips or cracks in the top layer's decking material. Use nylon adhesive tape or duct tape to mend the decking material.

  8. Step 3

    Look at all of the bolts and screws after you've used the snowshoes several times. Tighten these pieces of hardware if any are loose.
