Instructions

1
Leave the windows bare, or consider using a tree branch for a curtain rod and a simple tab-top curtain with a picnic-tablecloth check or a floral design. Wooden lattice or sheer curtains are other good options.
-
2
Cover the floor with a floral-motif rug, sisal mat or canvas floor-cloth painted with a garden theme.
-
-
3
Use an abundance of flowers, dried herbs and even twigs (curly willow or weeping birch, for example) in the room. Grapevine and dried-flower wreaths are options, too.
-
4
Choose lamps with bases of floral-pattern ceramic, terracotta or wicker. Another option is a candlestick lamp with a floral or checked shade.
-
5
Select pictures that complement the look, including garden-scene landscapes, still lifes with flowers and fruit, textbook-style botanicals, front-porch scenes with rocking chairs, and so forth.
-
6
Feel free to move anything normally found in the garden indoors, including weathered concrete statuary, birdhouses, birdbaths and baskets. An ornate trellis or garden tools (antique tools are especially nice) might hang on the wall, and a large watering can could hold dried flowers or magazines.
-
7
Look for a wallpaper that complements garden style. Florals, wicker looks and fruit patterns are some examples.
-
8
Underscore garden style by using tablecloths (Battenburg lace, 1940s florals, or picnic-cloth checks) on tabletops, and florals, lace or flounced eyelet fabrics on pillows.

Tips & Warnings
Many garden objects can function indoors. For example, a large terracotta pot could hold magazines or be topped with glass as an end table. You could put something inside the pot - pinecones, perhaps - or turn it upside down and leave it empty.

Finally, after years of struggle, I have found a product that allows me to hang anything, at any time of the year, around the outside of my home. It takes no time to install and can hold up to 15 pounds, which means almost anything we need to hang. It is called the Universal Soffit Hanger and is made by a company in Canada called Hanaken Ventures. See what you think, I have 6 of them now. Good luck and happy gardening. -

We all know real, live plants are best, but there are some beautiful fakes out there that can fool most anyone - especially when placed up high or in other places where a real plant might not survive. And they add immensely to the "garden" look.
