A QuickTime movie can be played by any QuickTime Player program or can be imported into various multimedia authoring or animation applications that use QuickTime programming. These instructions apply to Adobe Premiere 4.2 for Windows.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Adobe Premiere
Step1
Open the movie or clip that you want to compile as QuickTime.
Step2
From the Make menu, select Make Movie. A dialog box appears.
Step3
Click Output Options.
Step4
From the Output area, select QuickTime.
Step5
Put a check beside Video and Audio if your QuickTime is to contain both. If it is to contain only one, check Video OR Audio.
Step6
Select your audio rate and your format. A higher sample rate produces higher quality sound, but the file will be much larger.
Step7
Select your interleave options.
Step8
Select your video size and type.
Step9
Click OK.
Step10
Name your movie and indicate where it is to be saved on your disk.
Step11
Click Save.

Tips & Warnings

  • Note that a sampling rate of 44 kHz and a 16-bit stereo format will produce the best quality audio, but the file size will be huge. A sampling of 11 kHz and a format of 8-bit mono will generate a much smaller file but the audio quality will be low. Make your selections according to importance of quality and file size.
  • Interleave applies to the amount of audio stored between blocks of video. The 1-second default will be fine in most cases. If the QuickTime audio sounds choppy, however, you might want to experiment with the interleave setting.
  • A QuickTime movie compiled on a Mac will not open in a Windows computer unless it has been "flattened." To flatten, open the QuickTime movie that you have just compiled, then choose Export from the File menu to export it as a flattened movie (.mov).
