How to Create Special Effects With Premiere Filters

Just as you can add special effects to a still image by using a filter, Adobe Premiere 4 allows you to add special effects to a movie clip.

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Premiere

    Apply a Filter to One Clip

  1. Step 1

    Open or create a project.

  2. Step 2

    Open the Construction window.

  3. Step 3

    Select the clip in the Construction window that you want to apply the filter to.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the Clip window, then click Filters.

  5. Step 5

    In the left window that appears (Available), locate the filter or filters that you want to use.

  6. Step 6

    Drag them into the right (Current) window.

  7. Step 7

    Depending on the filter you selected, a dialog box might appear asking for custom settings. Supply any information that is required.

  8. Step 8

    Click OK.

  9. Step 9

    Preview your movie.

  10. Step 10

    Save your project when satisfied.

  11. Applying Filters to Multiple Clips

  12. Step 1

    Apply filters to one clip, then select and copy the clip.

  13. Step 2

    Select another clip that you want to filter in a similar way, and click on Paste Custom in the Edit menu (Paste Special for the Mac).

  14. Step 3

    Click Settings in the box that appears.

  15. Step 4

    Click Filters in the new box, then click Paste. The filters are now applied to the second clip.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to apply the same filter to many clips simultaneously, select the clips you want with the Multi-Track tool, then click Paste Special or Paste Special Again.
