If you have begun a collection and want to add to it, consider adding more glass of the same type or period, or branch out and begin collecting pieces that are completely different.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Glass Valuation Guides
  • Carnival Glass
  • Cut Glass
  • Glass Animals
  • Glass Sculptures
  • Lockable Display Cabinets
  • Milk Glass
  • Paperweights
  • Pressed Glass
  • Depression Glass
  • Post-it Flags
  • Highlighter Pens
  1. Step 1

Assess your current collection. Do you have many pieces in one pattern? If so, you might want to try to complete the set.

  2. Step 2

Look at the types of pieces you have. Are they all from one period or all one type of glass? You might want to pick up on that and expand your collection to include more of the same types of pieces. Or you might choose to branch out and collect pieces that are completely different.

  3. Step 3

Decide whether you like the way you see your collection developing. Consider selling some pieces that do not fit in with your collection as a whole and using the money to develop the type of collection you want to have.

  4. Step 4

Think about organizing your collection in a different way. Instead of grouping items of the same pattern or period together, you might display plates together and goblets together somewhere else. In doing so, you may realize you want to add more pieces to these collections.

  5. Step 5

Consider the colors you currently have in your collection. You might wish to incorporate some different colors.

  6. Step 6

Remember that glassware collecting includes things such as glass animals, paperweights and sculpture.

  7. Step 7

Peruse a glass guide. Mark pages that contain items you would like for your collection.

  8. Step 8

Go to antique shops, flea markets, dealers and conventions and search for pieces that will expand your collection.

  9. Step 9

Shop online to see whether you can find particular pieces from online dealers or auction sites.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look at the storage space you have for your current collection. You may wish to add another display cabinet for your new pieces.
