  1. Step 1

Buy several bunches of mixed, brightly colored flowers at the grocery store or have your children pick a bunch of flowers from your yard.

Put the flowers in water while you prepare the cross.

  3. Step 3

Cover your table with a plastic cloth to keep it from getting wet.

  4. Step 4

Buy two long strips of green floral foam from your local floral supply or craft store.

  5. Step 5

Cut the two pieces of the cross so one is shorter than the other and then fashion them into the shape of a cross, holding the two pieces together with pins.

  6. Step 6

Submerge the entire cross in water to moisten it.

  7. Step 7

Take the flowers out of the water and clip the stems so they are all two inches long.

  8. Step 8

Remove the cross from the water and lay it out on the table.

  9. Step 9

Have your children push the flower stems into the floral foam until the front and sides of cross are covered with flowers.

  10. Step 10

Display the cross outside your front door or in your backyard.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you buy floral foam, make sure you purchase the kind that absorbs water.
  • If you want to make a cross you can set up anywhere inside your house, use silk flowers instead of real ones and buy Styrofoam instead of the green floral foam. Use wire cutters to trim off the stems (leaving about 2 inches) before you give them to your children to put onto the cross.
  • Remember to use wire cutters to trim the stems off of silk flowers. Not only will using your regular scissors ruin them, but it can also cause injury.
