All you need is some imagination and a bottle of green food coloring to get your family into the spirit of St. Patrick's Day.

From Quick Guide: St. Patrick's Day Guide
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Milk
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Cookie Or White Cake Mix
  • Torani Lime Syrups
  • Alfredo Sauce
  • Green Food Coloring
  • Sprite
  • Bread Mixes
  • Carton Of Whipped Cream
  1. Step 1

Start off the morning by serving your kids a glass of green milk with their breakfast (a bowl of Lucky Charms, perhaps?).

  2. Step 2

Put a few drops of green food coloring in a clear citrus-based soda to make a fun, fizzy, green beverage. To improve the taste, you can also add lime-flavored syrup to the soda.

  3. Step 3

Impress your friends and family by making pasta and serving it with green Alfredo sauce or pesto sauce. Or serve chicken with green gravy and green mashed potatoes (with green vegetables, of course).

  4. Step 4

Bake a loaf of fresh green bread by adding a few drops of food coloring to your bread mix.

  5. Step 5

Make a traditional dessert more festive by preparing some green whipped cream as a topping. If you like, add a touch of mint extract to match the color with a mint flavor.

  6. Step 6

Whip up a batch of sugar cookies, adding a couple of drops of green food coloring to the dough, or add green food coloring to a white cake mix.

Tips & Warnings
  • For most foods (especially liquids), a drop or two of food coloring goes a long way.
  • The lighter-colored the food, the easier to make it green, and the better it will look. Dark foods require more food coloring and tend to look moldy when colored.
  • Think about hiding the food coloring from your kids after you're done with it. They might decide that everything should be green.

on 3/17/2009 I made my son's turkey sandwich with a spinach wrap, found veggie chips and used only the green spinach ones, packed a pickle and green power ade. He had rainbow goldfish - only the green's - for snack, and a green sugar cookie for a little treat.

on 4/19/2008 This is my St. Patrick's Lunchtime "Surprise".

For those of you who pack your children's lunches, the following works great for St. Patrick's Day.

Pack a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (add green food coloring to the peanut butter and apple jelly), sliced kiwis and/or green grapes, celery stalks, a green cupcake with green icing, and lime Kool-aid.

Enjoy!
