It's important to take fire safety measures with campfires and grills. We usually camp and grill in the summertime, when the surrounding vegetation is dry. For your safety and the safety of others, read the following steps before embarking on your outdoor adventure.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Grilling Cookbooks
  • Barbecue Grills
  • Charcoal
  • Grill Utensils
  • Camp Chairs
  • Camping Gear
  • Camping Stoves
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Water Bucket
Step1
Keep children at a safe distance from campfires and grills.
Step2
Wear close-fitting clothing - no scarves or skirts.
Step3
Make sure nothing flammable is nearby.
Step4
Have a fire extinguisher or a bucket of water handy at all times.
Step5
Keep at least a 3-foot distance between the campfire or grill and anything else. Make sure there's no dry vegetation nearby.
Step6
Put out all fires before leaving the campsite or grill area.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep anything flammable away from fire and heat.
  • Teach everyone how to put out a clothing fire - stop, drop and roll (see "How to Teach a Child to Stop, Drop and Roll," under Related eHows).
  • In the event of a fire, get your family to safety before attempting to put the fire out yourself. If the fire is spreading too quickly, get everyone away and go call 911.

on 11/22/2005 Dig previously made fire pits out before using then back fill it with fresh dirt. Some buttheads get pleasure out of burying bullets, firecrackers and propane cylinders in your fire pit. This will surely ruin your day if it explodes in your face. Enjoy.
