  7. Step 7

Teach everyone on the trip how to put out a clothing fire: stop, drop and roll.

Put out all fires before leaving the campsite or grill area.

Tips & Warnings
  • At a campfire, make sure everyone around the fire is wearing tight-fitted clothing. No ponchos, scarves or skirts that could blow in the breeze and catch fire.
  • Keep anything flammable away from fire and heat.
  • In the event of a fire, get your family to safety before attempting to put the fire out yourself. If the fire is spreading too quickly, get everyone away and call 911.
  • Children should never have access to matches or lighters.
