If an attacker tries to kick you, you can dodge or attempt to block the strike, but why not surprise the attacker by countering the kick with a takedown?

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos

Step1
Guard your middle and high sections from the attack by bending your right arm at the elbow and raising your fist against the left side of your face.
Step2
Keep your left arm straight down at your left side, your hand in a fist. This will protect your left side from an attacker's kick striking in from the left side. Reverse all movements if the attacker launches a kick to your right side.
Step3
Grab your attacker's kicking leg with your left arm as he or she tries to kick you in the side.
Step4
Step forward quickly and grab the attacker's shirt with your right hand as the attacker balances on one leg.
Step5
Slide and hook your right foot behind your attacker's supporting leg. Sweep the attacker's leg from under him or her.
Step6
Push forward and down with your arms against the attacker to throw the attacker to the ground.
Step7
Run away as the attacker struggles to recover.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always try to avoid a conflict if at all possible. If you can't avoid a conflict, escape at the first opportunity.
  • Self defense techniques can cause severe injury. Be cautious when you practice with a partner.
