If an attacker tries to kick you, you can dodge or attempt to block the assault, but why not surprise the attacker by kicking back?

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos

Step1
Get ready to time your kick against the attacker's as soon as you see the attacker pulling back his or her knee.
Step2
Turn your body away from the kick immediately.
Step3
Lift your back leg as you turn and bend your knee to a 90 degree angle. Pull your toes back and point your heel forward.
Step4
Hold your hands together as fists in front of your middle to guard.
Step5
Continue to turn until your other side and raised heel are in line with your attacker.
Step6
Strike out quickly with your leg and aim for the attacker in the middle section. The striking surface will be the heel of your foot.
Step7
Pull your leg back quickly and return to your original position.
Step8
Run away as the attacker struggles to recover.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't block first and then perform the kick. As you turn to do the reverse kick, you will avoid the side kick and you will take advantage of the opening that your attacker's side kick created.
  • Always try to avoid a conflict if at all possible. If you can't avoid a conflict, escape at the first opportunity.
  • Self defense techniques can cause severe injury. Be cautious when you practice with a partner.
