How to Defend Against a Club Attack With a Knee Strike

A stranger wields a Louisville Slugger at you, blocking your only escape route. What do you do? Try striking the attacker's knee with a kick.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos
  1. Step 1

    Assume that the attacker is attempting to swing a bat or club from the right side in this situation.

  2. Step 2

    Lower your center of gravity to gain stability.

  3. Step 3

    As the attacker begins to swing, lean back far enough for the bat to miss you.

  4. Step 4

    Shift your weight to the leg farthest away from the attacker.

  5. Step 5

    Bend the knee of your closer leg and pull back toward your chest as you turn your side to the attacker. Keep your heel close as your pull your leg back, your heel will point out with your toes pulled back.

  6. Step 6

    Strike out directly at the attacker's knee with your heel.

  7. Step 7

    Run away as the attacker struggles to recover.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always try to avoid a conflict if at all possible. If you can't avoid a conflict, escape at the first opportunity. Perform a knee strike only if your escape route is blocked and your life is threatened.
  • Self-defense techniques can cause severe injury. Be cautious when you practice with a partner. If confronted by an attacker, always try to escape first.
