Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Clamp your bike into a repair stand.

  2. Step 2

Remove the bar ends and grips or handlebar tape - see related eHow "Replace Bike Grips." Loosen all bolts on the brake levers and shift levers. You may also want to undo the front and rear brakes.

  3. Step 3

Loosen the bar clamp bolt, on the stem where it attaches to the bar.

  4. Step 4

Slide off brake and shift levers. Slide the bars back and forth if your cable housing is too short.

  5. Step 5

Slide your old handlebars out of the stem.

  6. Step 6

    Slide in your new bars.

  7. Step 7

Replace the brake and shift levers. If you are using the same type of bar, the cables and housing should be fine. If not, you may have to shorten the housing, or replace the housing and cables.

  8. Step 8

Adjust the bar angle and tighten the stem clamp bolt.

  9. Step 9

Replace the bar ends and grips or handlebar tape.

  10. Step 10

    Make sure everything is tight.
