Step 1
Fit the stem onto your handlebar. To do this, the brake levers, shifters, grips, bar ends, bar tape, etc., need to be removed from one side of the bar. Do not tighten the stem onto the bar yet.
-
Step 2
Grease the stem. Be sure to get grease the bolt and around the wedge. Also grease the inside of the headtube.
-
Step 3
Insert the stem into the headtube.
-
Step 4
Tighten the top bolt on the stem with an Allen wrench until the stem stays in place, but don't tighten it all the way. Now adjust the angle of your bars and tighten the stem onto the bar.
-
Step 5
Check you stem height. Adjust up or down if necessary.
-
Step 6
Center the bars by lining up the stem with the front wheel. Then tighten it down firmly.
-
Step 7
Test the stem. Place the front wheel between your legs, grab the bars and try to twist the stem. If it slips, it's not tight enough. Also push down on the bars to make sure they are in tight.
-
Step 8
Inspect your brakes and the rest of the bike carefully before riding it.
