The curling iron, the hair dryer and the bathtub - not a good mix. There are a few steps you can take to keep your bathroom, and you, safe from fire hazards.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Check all electrical wires and cords for appliances that you use in the bathroom. Make sure they aren't frayed. Dispose of all broken electrical appliances.

  2. Step 2

Make sure matches and lighters are kept out of the reach of children, if you tend to keep matches in the bathroom. Put them in high places where tiny hands can't get to them.

  3. Step 3

Avoid using candles in the bathroom - but if you choose to use them, place candles in safe, nonflammable holders. Extinguish candles when you leave the bathroom.

  4. Step 4

Keep all electrical appliances unplugged when not in use, and don't leave the bathroom while appliances are on.

Tips & Warnings
  • Lower the temperature on your water heater to 120 degrees F or below to avoid hot water burns.
  • Avoid using electrical appliances around water, and never submerge an appliance in water.
