How to Add a Hover Button to a Web Page With Microsoft FrontPage

Hover buttons change color or make sounds when the mouse rests over them. These instructions work for FrontPage 2000.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Start the FrontPage program and open an existing web.

  2. Step 2

    Open the page to be edited and position the cursor where the button will appear.

  3. Step 3

    Open the Insert menu and select Active Elements. Choose Hover Button and click OK.

  4. Step 4

    Enter the appropriate information (button text, where the button links to, colors, and so on; see the Tips below for help) in the Hover Button dialog box. Click OK.

  5. Step 5

    Save the page when finished.

  6. Step 6

    Preview the page in a Web browser by choosing Preview in Browser from the File menu. From the dialog box, choose the desired browser and settings.

  7. Step 7

    Test the button thoroughly before uploading it to your site.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try each of the effects provided in the Effects box.
  • Experiment with the button colors to find the best effect for your button.
  • Hover buttons are powered by Java applets, which some browsers do not support. Be sure to offer an alternate button for non-Java browsers.
  • Use your own button by leaving the Button Text and "Link to" boxes blank and choosing Custom. In the Custom window, type the name of the regular button and the button that will appear when the mouse hovers; add the URL of the button and click OK.
