How to Pay Your Mortgage Online

As with most online bill-paying services, you will need to set up an online checking account with the bank that holds your mortgage in order to pay online.

  • Internet Access
  • Checking Accounts
  • Calendars
  • Computers
  1. Step 1

    Find out whether the company that holds your mortgage loan has online payment programs or checking accounts.

  2. Step 2

    Ask to be sent a sign-up form by mail if the lender offers online checking accounts.

  3. Step 3

    Sign up for the checking account by mail.

  4. Step 4

    Go to the lender's Web site to obtain a password that will enable you to access your account.

  5. Step 5

    Access your account.

  6. Step 6

    Transfer funds from the checking account to the mortgage-loan balance.

  7. Step 7

    Request a receipt.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid letting your checking-account balance drop below the specified minimum. You will have to pay a monthly fee at some banks if the account balance drops below $1,500.

on 2/18/2009 I used to do this but was looking for a way to get rewards for my citi mastercard and was referred to chargesmart.com ... There are fees but with the extra airmiles its worth it. Plus its much easier than the other billpay sites ive seen. The way described here works well if all you want is to debit your checking account though.
