This is one of the most popular ties for dying. The rosette, when done properly, will create a sunburst effect. Use many colors for vivid results.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dyes
  • 100-percent Cotton Or Silk Fabrics
  • Clothesline
  • Clothespins
  • Salt
  • Salt
  • Rubber Gloves

  • Measuring Spoons
  • Stockpots
  • Rubber Bands
  • Rubber Bands
  • String
  • T-shirts

  1. Step 1

    Start in the center of the fabric.

  2. Step 2
     

    Poke your finger up from underneath and gather the fabric at the base of your finger.

  3. Step 3
     

    Pull your finger out while holding the fabric.

  4. Step 4
     

    Wrap a string or rubber band tightly around the section you are holding, about 4 or 5 inches from the end.

  5. Step 5

    Add more ties at 4- to 6-inch intervals until you run out of fabric.

Tips & Warnings
  • Put dye into the ties with a dropper or squeeze bottle right before the final dye wash.
  • Make the intervals closer for a more erratic effect.
  • Experiment with different widths of rubber bands.

on 11/22/2005 When making the rossette knot, twist the cloth first to make it look like a spiral when it's finnished.
