Step1
Decide how many children you think you can effectively handle in your home, and invite no more than this number.
Step2
Ask some other adults to attend the party to help you.
Step3
Make or buy some heart-shaped invitations. If you make your own, you could write, "You're invited to a real sweetheart of a party." Include the time and date of the party as well as the location.
Step4
Request an RSVP so you will know how many children to expect.
Step5
Plan out your food or snack menu. Some ideas sure to please are heart-shaped sandwiches; red, heart-shaped Jell-O jigglers; cupcakes with pink frosting and red candy; heart-shaped cutout cookies; and Rice Krispies treats with red candies in them.
Step6
Decide on some age-appropriate games. Pin the Arrow on Cupid, Valentine Bingo, and Hide the Heart Button (a variation of Hide the Button) are all sure to be hits. Have the children make as many words as they can from the letters in "heart" or "Valentine." Candy Land is great for younger children.
Step7
Choose some party activities. Give each child a white T-shirt, and let each use fabric paint and glitter to make a T-shirt with hearts (most boys won't be very interested in this).
Step8
Let children decorate their own heart cookies and eat them.
Step9
Adapt some well-known songs to Valentine's Day and sing them ("Cupid is Coming to Town," for example).
Step10
Decorate the area in which you will have the party. Dress up the table and hang some pink and red streamers. Display heart balloons, bouquets of artificial roses, boxes of Valentine's Day candy, and dishes of foil-wrapped chocolate hearts.
Step11
Put together small bags of party favors. Buy some candy and heart-shaped favors and place them in heart-covered favor bags. Tie with a piece of lace.

on 11/22/2005 For V-Day my 6-year-old and I hosted a tea party luncheon. She invited six of her girlfriends, and I invited four of my girlfriends. We served heart-shaped finger sandwiches, fruit salad with lots of fresh strawberries, and a heart-shaped cake!

on 11/22/2005 You can order plain, heart-shaped sugar cookies from a bakery. Just call 2 or 3 days ahead of time to place your order. They're reasonably priced and will save you a lot of preparation time.
