Leftover candy canes? Use them to make these attractive Valentine's Day cards.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Get out the extra candy canes from Christmas.

  2. Step 2

Discard any that are broken or partially eaten.

  3. Step 3

Sort through the candy canes and create sets of two matching canes. You want your pairs to be the same color and size. You may leave them in their plastic wrappers or take them out. If you unwrap them, they cannot be eaten by the card recipient.

  4. Step 4

Fold a piece of red, white or pink 8-by-10-inch construction paper in half to create a card. You might wish to use actual card stock or computer greeting card paper instead.

  5. Step 5

Create an attractive background on the front of the card using a doily, hand-drawn designs or computer-generated images.

  6. Step 6

Write your Valentine message inside and add any designs or drawings you would like on the inside. If you did not use a doily on the outside, you could glue one inside and write your message on it.

  7. Step 7

Take your two candy canes and center them on the front of the card. Place the tips at the end of the bent tops together and bring the bottom tips together to form a heart. Make a mark with pencil so you will know where the canes were centered.

  8. Step 8

Lift your candy canes up and coat the back of them with craft glue.

  9. Step 9

Place the candy canes back on the spot you had marked and make sure all four tips are touching.

  10. Step 10

Wait for the glue to dry.

  11. Step 11

Treat the card gently so that the candy canes do not crack.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you use full-size candy canes on the outside, you could make a heart from mini candy canes on the inside of the card as well.
