How to Make a Valentine With a Ribbon Border

A ribbon border adds just the right finishing touch to a handmade Valentine.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Cut a piece of card stock into a 6-inch square.

  2. Step 2

    Outline a heart shape on the cardstock. To make a perfect heart shape, see "How to Make Cutout Hearts."

  3. Step 3

    Cut the heart shape out with scissors.

  4. Step 4

    Use a hole punch to punch holes along the outside edge of the heart.

  5. Step 5

    Cut one yard of ΒΌ-inch-wide ribbon.

  6. Step 6

    Pull the ribbon through the top center hole, leaving a 6-inch tail in front.

  7. Step 7

    Wrap the long end of the ribbon over the edge of the heart and insert it into the next hole in the front.

  8. Step 8

    Continue lacing the ribbon through the holes around the edge of the heart.

  9. Step 9

    Come up through the last hole from the back of the card.

  10. Step 10

    Tie the ribbon ends in a bow.

  11. Step 11

    Decorate the front of the heart with stickers, rubber stamps or markers.

  12. Step 12

    Write a Valentine message on the back.

Tips & Warnings
  • Place two hearts on top of each other. Punch holes around the edge. Lace the two hearts together. Before lacing the hearts completely, put a pinch of potpourri inside. Finish lacing the hearts and tie the ends.
