How to Get Immunizations for Traveling

Depending on where you travel, you may need to get shots ahead of time. But not every country requires every immunization. Get only the shots you need before you travel abroad.

  1. Step 1

    Looking to common immunizations. Hepatitis, rabies, meningococcal, yellow fever, typhoid, tetanus and measles boosters are just a few of the shots needed. Some immunizations are standard forms of health in the United States, so you may already ahve the requirement fulfilled.

  2. Step 2

    Learn about the common destinations that might require shots. Africa, Mexico, Central and South America, Asia, Australia and the South Pacific, the Middle East and Eastern Europe are places that commonly require shots. However, many of those requirements are standards shots you may already have.

  3. Step 3

    Visit www.cdc.gov/travel to confirm immunization requirements in your destination country and get updates on outbreaks.
