Learning to cross in and out of the wake opens up a whole new dimension of riding for kneeboarders.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Learn to steer and control your kneeboard properly.

  2. Step 2

Start by cutting to the right from inside the wake, leaning to the right and pulling the rope handle to your left hip. Take this slow the first few times you try.

  3. Step 3

Lean back a little extra as you begin to hit the wake.

  4. Step 4

Pull the handle closer to your left hip as you go over the wake. Lean away from the boat and be prepared for the short drop-off.

  5. Step 5

Draw your knees toward your chest as you drop over the side of the wake to keep the nose of your board from digging in.

  6. Step 6

    Keep your stomach muscles tight.

  7. Step 7

    Continue leaning against the boat.

  8. Step 8

Turn left and cross the wake in the other direction using the same procedure.

Tips & Warnings
  • The most important aspect of crossing the wake is making sure the nose of your board does not submerge and catch.
  • Keep your head up and eyes on the horizon.
  • Practice crossing back and forth across both wakes. Practice doing it faster and faster. Avoid favoring one side over the other.
  • Bend your arms as you go over the wake, pulling the rope in toward your hip.
  • Always wear a life vest when kneeboarding.
  • Kneeboarding is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
