1
Begin with meditation. Stand with your feet parallel, about shoulders' width apart. Relax your entire body and calm your mind.
-
2
Inhale and exhale deeply, breathing from your diaphragm. Imagine fatigue and tension escaping as you exhale, and fresh air and energy entering your body as you inhale.
-
-
3
Concentrate on the rhythm of your body. Sense the blood flow and your breathing until you can feel your body's natural rhythm.
-
4
Meditate every day. After several weeks or months, you will begin to sense the rhythm of internal energy without the assistance of deep breathing.
-
5
Use any available leisure time to practice breathing techniques and increase your awareness of internal energy.
-
6
Transfer internal power into external action. As you develop your chi (vital life energy) you may experience tingling, trembling or other sensations. This is when you can direct or focus your chi to specific areas of the body - head, legs, arms - that require more strength or energy to perform a task.

As you develop more focus through tai chi meditation and movements, you'll increase your stamina and physical strength.

Tips & Warnings
Place equal emphasis on mental preparation and physical exercise. According to tai chi belief, the mental cultivation of internal life energy (chi) leads to physical power, whereas physical exercise alone leads to imbalance.
If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity.
