For a fun activity in the pool, play a game of tag using wet sponges.

  1. Step 1

Understand that a wet sponge doesn't travel very far or at a fast pace, and doesn't hurt much when it strikes. This makes it a great object to throw at each other in the pool.

  2. Step 2

Find a big sponge. The bigger the better for this game.

  3. Step 3

Gather together as many people as possible.

  4. Step 4

Give one player the sponge. That player is "it" for the beginning of the game.

  5. Step 5

Throw the sponge and try to hit another player (if you're "it"). Wait for someone hiding under the water to come up, and then throw the sponge.

  6. Step 6

Try to avoid being hit by the sponge (if you're not "it"). Hide underwater to avoid being hit. If you get hit, you become "it," replacing the person who hit you with the sponge.

  7. Step 7

Continue as long as the players want to keep playing.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are many variations of this game. Try one in which anyone can throw the sponge and whoever gets hit is "out." Try playing with multiple sponges, or make teams and have an all-out sponge war. Be creative and have fun.
  • Never swim alone or unsupervised, run on the pool deck or dive into the shallow end of the pool.
  • Watch out for younger and weaker swimmers.
  • No roughhousing.

on 11/22/2005 This is fun to do during a kick set (only no throwing, and the person that is "It" has to sprint):
Use multiple sponges. Only the person that is "It" can switch from lane to lane.
